I use homeopathy with clients in my nutritional consultations when we mutually agree that it would be appropriate to assist them with acute or chronic physical, mental and/or emotional states of imbalance. My interest in energy healing led me to study the benefits of using homeopathy for physical, mental and emotional health. In 2004 I completed the highest-level certification in Advanced Homeopathy Training.
What is homeopathy and how can it help me?
Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body’s own immune system to clear itself of imbalance. In use for over 200 years, homeopathy has been scientifically shown to be an effective system of healing that supports the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. Homeopathic remedies do not cause side effects, and one cannot become addicted to them. Only a minute amount of the active ingredient in homeopathic remedies is used in a specially prepared form, and sometimes no active ingredient is actually in the remedy. A remedy will be chosen that matches the symptom that you are experiencing as well as one that is appropriate for your emotional, mental, and physical characteristics. Homeopathy respects the wisdom of the body and is used in safe doses that augment the individual’s own defense system.
Homeopathic remedies use tiny quantities of the substance that causes or mimics one’s symptoms. For example, small amounts of a suspected allergen might be taken to relieve the allergy in a process called “like cures like.” In contrast to the pharmaceutical approach, the more diluted a homeopathic medicine is, the stronger its effects on the body.
Homeopathy works for all ages and in animals as well as humans. It’s virtually non toxic and very inexpensive compared to mainstream medicine or even some supplements.
Research Studies on Homeopathy
Homeopathic physicians performed some of the earliest placebo-controlled, double blind studies in this country, and contemporary research finds homeopathic remedies effective for influenza and cold symptoms, allergies, diarrhea and other digestive disorders, fibromyalgia, and other musculoskeletal pain as well as anxiety, headaches and migraines, ear and toothaches, and many women’s health problems.
Recent research in quantum physics and energy medicine supports the homeopathic principle, and an investigation using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging at Harvard University has demonstrated distinctive readings of subatomic activity in 23 homeopathic medicines.
Homeopathy is widely practiced in Europe. Almost half of Dutch physicians consider homeopathy effective, and more than 40% of British doctors refer patients to homeopaths.
What to Expect with Homeopathic Treatment
Once a treatment has been given, some changes may take place. Some clients experience a period of wellbeing, but occasionally symptoms appear to get worse for some time. This is usually a good sign that the correct remedy has been given and is taking effect. Old symptoms can reappear but usually for a short period of time. The goal is to not treat the symptoms as they will pass, and they are an important part of the healing process. Some people do not notice any changes when beginning treatment. In that case, there a change in the dosage or the remedy may be necessary.
Homeopathy works from the inside of the body out, so patience is important when starting a homeopathic remedy. In the long term, it is much better for to work on the cause of the illness and its symptoms rather than merely relieving or suppressing the symptoms.
